N: Thank you very much. Good reminder. I looked up va, it is shortened of
iva or eva.
As to the previous Word by word: "Bhava~nhi so.nada.n.do a.d.dho mahaddhano
mahaabhogo pe", I find iot difficult to fit in here a greeting bhava~nhi,
also the hi. I am inclined to take it as referring to his birth in
aprevious sentence, when I look at the whole sutta.
I just take sentence no 3, for now.

The previous verses explain about the kindness, helpfulness etc. there
should be.
The Commentary:
<Na maataa putta-kaara.naa ti. yadi maataa ete sa"ngahe puttassa na kareyya,
putta-kaara.naa maana.m vaa puuja.m na labheyya.

The mother does not through the child, means, if (yadi) the mother does not
do these kind acts (ete sa"ngahe), for the child, she may not receive
honour and respect from her child.

These kind acts.
upayoga-vacane paccatta.m.
seperately (paccatta.m) in the textual (vacane) application.
Sa"ngahe ete ti vaa paa.tho
The words sa"ngahe ete, these kind acts, or the passage of the text
(paa.tho).>
Remark: The words ete sa"ngahe, seem to refer to the previous: all the kind
acts people should perform. One of the meanings given in PED. Bases of
popularity. I would like other opinions, please. The word vaa before paa.tho
is not clear to me.
As to the sutta text, I think this is clear.
