Bui then said to Kolli: "Now it is so, Kolli," said Bui, "as you have knowledge of our, Olaf's (and my) dealings.   (Z. kunnigr 1 - mér er kunnigt um e-t, I know, have knowledge of)

Hefi eg launað Kolfinni sína djörfung.
I have paid Kolfinnr (for) his boldness.

En nú skal Ólöf dóttir yður vera með þér þar til henni býðst forlag því að eg vil nú þó ekki elska hana síðan Kolfinnur hefir spillt henni."
And now shall your daughter be with you until she is offered a settlement in marriage because I will now nevertheless not love here since Kolfinnr has spoiled her."

Nú varð svo að vera sem Búi vildi.
Now it came to pass so that would be as Bui wanted.

Bui rode then to Esjuberg (Esju-mountain) and his foster-relative Esja was still alive.

Varð hún honum alls hugar fegin.
She rejoiced (for) him (with) all (her) heart.    (Z. feginn - erða f. to rejoice)

Búi fór brátt í Brautarholt að finna móður sína.
Bui went soon to Brautarholt to meet his mother.

Var hún þá enn hraust kona.
She was then a strong woman.

Dvaldist Búi þar um hríð.
Bui stayed there a while.

Thorgrimr lived then still at Hofi and was then very old.

Hann átti dóttur eina barna er Helga hét.
He had a daughter, a child who was named Helga.

Hún var ung og hin skörulegasta kona.
She was young and the most magnificent woman.

His brother Arngrimr was then also dead and the brothers had shared an inheritance with each other.

Hafði Helgi land í Saurbæ en Vakur gerðist kaupmaður og þótti vera hinn vaskasti.
Helga had land in Saurbae and Vakr became a merchant and thought to be the most manly.

And it is so (that) wise and kindly men had come forward and produced a covenant between them, Bui and Thorgrim.

Og hversu margt sem hér var um talað þá fór það fram að þeir festu öll þessi mál, Búi og Þorgrímur, undir dóm hinna bestu manna.
And how(ever) many as here were for the talk then that went forward that they all made this agreement, Bui and Thorgrimr, under man's best court.     (like Z. festa 4 - f. sátt mál, to make a settled agreement)

Þeim málum var upp lokið um vorið á vorþingi.
Their agreement was made known during the spring at the spring-assembly.

Höfðu þeir það upphaf að þessum málum og sættum að Búi skyldi fá Helgu Þorgrímsdóttur en fégjöld þau sem dæmdust á Búa skyldu vera heimanfylgja Helgu.
They had that beginning to this agreement and reconciliation that Bui should get Helga, Thorgrim's daughter, and the payment as was judged to Bui should be a dowry of Helga.

Sáu þeir það sem var að þau Búi áttu hvern pening eftir hans dag.
They saw that as was to them Bui had what money when he is dead.  [Doesn't make sense!]  (Z. dagr 3 - eptir minn dag, when I am dead)

Helgi Arngrímsson skyldi fá Ólafar Kolladóttur.
Helgi, son of Arngrim, should marry Olaf, Kolla's daughter.

Eftir það veittu hvorir öðrum tryggðir.
After that (they) gave each other a sworn truce.

Efldu þeir nú til veislu mikillar að Hofi því að þar skyldu vera bæði brullaupin.
They held a wedding now for a big banquet at Hofi because both the weddings should be there.

Tókust þessi ráð um sumarið hvortveggi.
This took place during both the summers.

Litlu síðar andaðist Esja.
A little later Esja breathed his last.

Hún gaf allt fé sitt Búa og Þuríði dóttur hans.
She gave all her possessions to Bui and her daughter Thurid.

Búi tók þá við búi á Esjubergi og setti þar á rausnarbú.
Bui then received a neighbor (??) in Esjuberg and established there a great estate.

Eftir brullaupið um sumarið fór Helga til Esjubergs með Búa.
After the wedding during the summer Helga went to Esjuberg with Bui.

Var það brátt auðsætt að hún var hinn mesti skörungur.
That was soon clearly seen that she was the most notable woman.

Tókst nú vinátta með þeim Þorgrími goða með mægðum.
(There) began now a friendship with them, Thorgrim the chief (and others), with  marriage.

Hélt Þorgrímur nú öllu Búa til sæmdar.
Thorgrim now held Bui quite in honor.

Var þá þangað skotið öllum málum.
All cases were then handed over there.

Búi færði sér það allvel í nyt.
Bui availed himself of (something) very well.     (Z. nyt 2 - fœra sér e-t í nyt, to make use of, avail oneself of)

Varð hann hinn vinsælasti maður.
He became the most popular man.
