Hann mælti: "Hvað viltu hingað Freydís?"
He asked "What do you want here Freydis"
Hún svarar: "Eg vil að þú standir upp og gangir út með mér og vil eg tala við þig."
She replies "I want you to get up and come outside with me and I want to talk to you"
Svo gerir hann. Þau ganga að tré er lá undir skálavegginum og settust þar niður. "Hversu líkar þér?" segir hún.
This he did and they went to a fallen tree and it lay near the house wall and sat down there "How do you like it here" says she
Hann svarar: "Góður þykir mér landskostur en illur þykir mér þústur sá er vor í milli er því að eg kalla ekki hafa til orðið.
He replies "I consider good the lands resources(G) but ill I think of the anger(Z) between us and I call for it to end (ordið- to become) - [there being no call/reason for it]
"Þá segir þú sem er," segir hún, "og svo þykir mér. En það er erindi mitt á þinn fund að eg vildi kaupa skipum við ykkur bræður því að þið hafið meira skip en eg og vildi eg í brott héðan."
"Then you say (it) as it is (ie. truly) says she "I agree but my errand/purpose in a meeting with you is that I would exchange ships with you two brothers for you have a bigger ship and I wish to get away from here
"Það mun eg láta gangast," segir hann, "ef þér líkar þá vel."
"I think I may let that go ahead" says he "if it would please you" [ie. if you like it well]
Nú skilja þau við það. Gengur hún heim en Finnbogi til hvílu sinnar.
Now with this they parted She went home and Finnbogi went back to bed
Hún stígur upp í rúmið köldum fótum og vaknar hann Þorvarður við og spyr hví að hún væri svo köld og vot.
She climbed back into bed and her cold feet awoke Thorvald (Gods !! she's a cunning bitch) who asked why she was thus cold and wet.
Hún svarar með miklum þjósti: "Eg var gengin," segir hún, "til þeirra bræðra að fala skip að þeim og vildi eg kaupa meira skip.
She replies with great anger:(Z) "I went to the brothers to ask to buy (!) their ship for I want a bigger ship.
[all this is I want - what does Thorvald want - does he not count]
En þeir urðu við það svo illa að þeir börðu mig og léku sárlega en þú, vesæll maður, munt hvorki vilja reka
but they became with that (because of that ?) so angry and they hit me and treated me badly (?) and thou - wretched man will neither avenge
minnar skammar né þinnar og mun eg það nú finna að eg er í brottu af Grænlandi og mun eg gera skilnað við þig utan þú hefnir þessa."
this shame of mine nor of thine and I must now find (this) out I am far from Greenland and I shall divorce from you except (Z) you avenge this (that which has occured)
[she seems to be playing the poor lost lamb]
Og nú stóðst hann eigi átölur hennar og bað menn upp standa sem skjótast og taka vopn sín.
And now (however) he could not bear/support her nagging
(á-tala = reprimand) and he bade his men to get (the heck) up as fast as they could and take their weapons
Og svo gera þeir og fara þegar til skála þeirra bræðra og
gengu inn að þeim sofundum
and thus they did and went at once to the longhouse of the brothers and went in while they were asleep
og tóku þá og færðu í bönd og leiddu svo út hvern
sem bundinn var
and took them and bound them up and when tied up they fetched them outside
en Freydís lét drepa hvern sem út kom. Nú voru þar allir
karlar drepnir en konur voru eftir og vildi engi þær drepa.
but Freydis had each one killed when they were brought out.
Now were all the men killed, and the women were left because no one wanted to kill them
Þá mælti Freydís: "Fái mér öxi í hönd."
Then said Freydis "Give me an axe in my hand"
Svo var gert. Síðan vegur hún að konum þeim fimm er þar voru og gekk af þeim dauðum
So it was done - she attacked them - the five women - until all were dead.
