I see this as part of Norse Lore Grace - Bears were often a fetch a follower Spirit or perhaps a Wolf - Bears being associated with Berserker-Folk and Wolves with Ulvhednar it was believed that the Animal's spirit and seemingly - the man's or woman's spirit would be able to walk about at a - late time of day'
Think in Egil's Saga of Kveldulf - meaning Evenings Wolf, and also the Queen - dear me I forget her name - well Eiriks wife - the one Hrut slept with - she was a witch and went as a Crow or a Raven - personally I prefer Cat.

Subject: [norse_course] bears in the dream?

I can see the bear in the dream as the spirit of Gunnar=Hedin, but what is
with the cubs? Just Gunnar's companions?

I do not like to think about bears at all given that we are having an
onslaught of them here. Aug 28 a bear and her two cubs were right outside
where we park the truck, basically trapping our guests in the house for a
while and then last week when I turned on the outside light for my husband
who would be coming home shortly, a different bear was strolling by, 20 feet
from the door. So far our sheep have been safe, but the bears are very
hungry due to acorn and berry crop failures.
