Indeed, it fits Old High German slaht. In modern German
only Geschlecht is a still quite popular, although somewhat
old-fashioned. Otherwise for offspring, progeny, descendants,
generation there are other words in use. On top of that,
Geschlecht has the 1st and common semantic: "sex"+"gender".
