Still, you can't eat a cake and have it: <para-> and <vere:dus> can't be
both from the same language, as the prefix of the latter (be it *wo- or
*wer-) is certainly Celtic, with a a loss of *p. There is no good
evidence that forms with <para-> were originally used by the Celts, so
then hypothesis that the hybrid was coined in Latin remains strong.
