Dear Alex,
We have in Albanian <shap-1> 'mineral salt' very similar (white) to
sugar, so there is idiom <m'e nda shapin prej sheqerit> 'to make
distinction between two simiral things'. It is believed that is from
Latin origin <sapa> 'id.'.
Other <shap-2> 'Aphta epizootica', related to Rom. Soparla 'lizard' I
think that is from Turkish <shab> 'id.' and has nothing to do with
Rom. Soparla.
