In all probability, Piotr did a web search on 'Vinereanu' and came up
with:

Vinereanu
... <HOME. Mihai VINEREANU (City University, New York) CU SERIOZITATE
DESPRE ORIGINEA LIMBII ROMANE. Titlul acestei lucrari poate

From this text and the URL I surmise he reasonably assumed that this
was his home page. See the word 'HOME'. From a cursory look at the
page, it is either by Mihai Vinereanu or a libel on him. You do not
need to know Romanian (a basic education in Latin is often good
enough for a technical subject!) to see that the first few
comparisons, viz:

Avem rom. pamant, sansc. bhuman ( < *gh(d)em or ghemon), dar lat.
terra, ori rom. boier, lit. bajoras, alb.bujar, precum si sansc.
bharu.

are appalling bad.

I have not studied Romanian, but I did study Latin to 'O' level. 'O'
level was then the public examination intended to be taken by the
cleverest 40% at the age of 16 years. That was enough for me to
profitably use a Romanian Mathematical text book. I am not an
isolated example. I rather suspect Piotr's Romanian is a lot better
than mine. I know his Latin is!

You need to be careful of nationalistically inspired opinions.
People do not always stop to check arguments that support their
cherished beliefs, and sometimes they may publish arguments they know
to be invalid, for they think they are arguing in support of a good
cause. If you need an example with two active sides, try looking
up 'Ancient Macedonian' on the Internet.

You have made worse mistakes yourself. (We all make mistakes.) If
you read your own postings, you would see why Piotr referred to Old
Irish *ech. It was because you had referred to 'Celtic epo-' when
you meant 'P-Celtic epo-'. Piotr tends to correct such mistakes,
possibly lest others be misled.

Richard.
