erroneous assumption(s). I confess that I got my
information about "Erdely-Ardeal" from Hungarian
sources. Could you develop your answer a bit? You say
that "Ardal" is prior to "Erdely", that the second is
a borrowing from the first, and that the term is
originally Celtic. What is its meaning in Celtic? When
would you imagine this territory to have been so
designated? Ammianus Marcellinus seems to call it
"Caucalandia": cf. XXXI.4.13.(wr. 392 AD) The Old
Ukrainian Chronicle still refers to it as surrounded
by "Caucasian" mountains.(wr. 1113/1116 AD).******
