[Moeller]: What strange is , is the fact no ancient writer wrote something
about what kind of language is the language spoken
bey Dacians or Getae. Such references as this one from
Strabon ,are made by several writters ,but nothing more.
I just wonder because if there is clear reference toward
bastarnae as german speaking folk, if there are descriptions
plenty of details about the translators between romans and
Goths ( see the meeting of Aurelian with the Goths on the left side of
Donau),
there is however, no reference of the geatae language.Even
about the thracian language the romans and greeks do not tell us too much.
This is a strange thing for a nation ( in the ancient sense
of the word) which was "the biggest after the one of indians".
Because of this , here is a big field of suppositions and
speculations.
The fact that the inscriptions from Orasthie Mountains even
befor the roman qonquest are latin is too a strange thing, even if we could
try to find some explanations like " the masons who
biulded them were latin workers".
I just ask myself if there we could speak about a common
latin in the thracian language. It will explain a lot of things if there
is such a kind sister-likely-relation among latin and
thracian languages.
best regards
A. Moeller
