This is beginning to get a little *TOO* Catholic for my taste
Certainly the classical writers knew the difference. They clearly
differentiated between people who were Lydians and those that came from
Lydia of old but were Tyrhhenoi. Classical authors also differentiated
Carians and Leleges as different ethnic groups (south of Lydians and
Lycians) as well. Tyrhhenoi and Pelasgian tended to be found in the
Northern Aegean from Macedoina as far south as Attica, Carians and
Leleges tended to be found in the Southern Aegean (as far north as
Thessaly). There was a big area of confusing overlap.

I would see "Pelasgians" as the first wave of Neolithics. Thus the
cultural sequence goes
6,500-5,500 Nea Nikomedia (Macedonia - Pre-Pottery Neolithic) (Asianic
Pelasgian?)
5,500 -1,500 Sesklo - Painted pottery Neolithic (Thessaly) (Asianic
Pelasgian again?)
2,500 -I.E. Grey Minyan ware proto-Helenes arrive in Thessaly
2,200 -Pelasgian-Tyrhhenoi refugees from Luwian invasion of Anatolia.
Fall of Troy II.
1,900 -Dimini fortified. Helenes the elite throughout Greece
1,600 -Perseids in Mysenae. Grave circle & Tholoi.
1,450 -Archaean Hellenes capture Knossos. Arzawan refugees (Atreides)
settle Peloponnesse
1,200 -Trojan War to reopen Dardanelles. Helenised Palasgian(Peleset)
and Lycianised Tyrhhenoi(Troiusha) involved in Peoples of the Sea carry
Late Helladic IIIC culture to the Levant
1,000 - Dorian "invasion" - Return of the Herakleides.
800 - Etruscan wave from Lydia to Italy. Hellene colonies in Anatolia.
