Greets,
I'm writing to ask advice on how to safely photocopy books when there
would be some risk to the book (in particular the spine)?
I did some searching and found that some photocopy machines are made
with books and spine protection in mind, for example this "edge copier":

Visiting a local Kinko's none of their photocopy machines have this
feature and a manager there tells me that they are getting harder to
come by and didn't think I'd find one at another Kinkos.
So I'm wondering about alternatives that people here could recommend.
Some thoughts that come to mind are -hand held scanners, a
home-office mini size photocopier, digital photos (tedious), anything
else? I'm only interested in making black & white copies.
thanks!
