P.S. Seems like the Critical Pali Dictionary also interprets it in such a way:

abhi-kkama, m. [sa. abhikrama; cf. 2abhikkanta; opp. paṭikkama], advance, approach; Abh 836 (= 'abhikkanta'); ~o natthi paṭikkamo vā, Pv 509 (Pv-a); patikkamo 'sānaṁ [scil. vedanānaṁ] paññāyati no ~o,'

(scil. - scilicet - to wit; namely)

Dear Bhante,

In translating SN, I simply followed the sense: "... their increase, not their subsiding, is to be discerned." The Chinese translators of the Agamas translate in a similar way.

Taking in account the explanation:

paṭikkamosānanti paṭikkamo etāsaṃ.

from SN-a 3, 1. khandhasaṃyuttaṃ, 9. theravaggo, 5. vakkalisuttavaṇṇanā, para. 1

I wonder if the compound is paṭikkamo+esānaṃ

Mettena cittena,
