...as there is no central authority for Pali it's probably hard to pick ;-)

I guess the Indian background makes it easier to find words which are
already in use but there might be conflicting versions after some time. A
project like the Pali wikipedia would have be a good place to establish
such a modern list of words (and conversational texts). For whatever
reason, a few years back, someone had switched the Pali Wikipedia from
Roman transliteration to Devanagari.
