Hi Steve:
Glad that you were able to solve the issue! I'll get back to you off-list
in just a little while (after work) about your question, when I can send
you some more information. This gets a bit detailed, but the result is
well worth it. (At that time, you may also find out whether you still need
to change your email settings or not...)
You will probably need to deal with at least two scenarios: (1) writing
with diacritics in your Word documents (which is not hard to set up,
especially as you have Windows 7); and (2) writing with diacritics directly
into email messages and search engines, which requires a different set-up.
There is also an alternative method (3), namely, using the Velthuis > UTF-8
conversion tool in Digital Pali Reader, then copying and pasting the
converted text; but that's a bit roundabout for regular use. It's more
efficient just to set up your own keyboard with the basic diacritical
characters for Pali (and Sanskrit, too, if you want).
With metta,
Khristos
