Hi Bryan (and all),
<< Also, would it be possible to circulate (like you are doing with
the Dhp) a sutta from the grammarians with a translation once in a
while? I have never studied a grammarian, Sanskrit or Pāli in their
own language, so it would be very helpful for me to become familiar
with their work and style, >>
After some further thinking, I thought that I could start posting
suttas from the Kaccaayanabyaakara.na to the list. I would start with
the sandhikappa which has two introductory verses followed by 51
suttas that deal with the letters and sandhi. Like the Dhp postings, I
will provide the text and a translation. I only have U Nandisena's
translation so that will have to do. Actually, there are hardly any
English translations of Kaccaayana around. What I would like to do is
to substitute Kaccaayana for the Dhp in my weekly postings on the new,
full, and half moon days. The Dhp postings will continue to happen
during breaks from Kaccaayana but not both at the same time.
Since tomorrow is a New Moon day, I will post the first of two
introductory verses from Kaccaayana instead of the next verse from
Dhp. We're still at liberty to comment on or not to comment on the
Kaccaayana quote of the week just like with Dhp. Lots of substitutions
(aadesas) in the traditional grammars!
Best wishes,
Jim
