I hope I am not intruding on this discussion. I am writing this because I like to have a small carification.

Now Jhana is some sort of concentration. So your consciousness can have only one object; that is the meditation object. In other words, no thoughts, directed or otherwise except the meditation object.

If the above assumption is right, then savitakka and savicara is thought about the meditation object. May be in the next Jhana even that will be gone and you are just an observer.
