I decided to study the "Pali Elementary Course" to see if there's
anything to learning this language. I'm enjoying it, I sometimes feel
like I'm decoding a secret message.
I'm starting to question my reasons for learning this language.
Individuals who published translated work will be better than I'll
ever be (perhaps due to lack of motivation). I do however, see a use
for looking up words that are difficult to interpret. Why do I want
to learn a language just so I can make sure the sentence structure is
correct? Are translations that bad? Wouldn't it make more sense to
just look up questionable words in the dictionary? Often authors will
give you the Pali or Sanskrit word for you to look up.
Also I've noticed that while learning this language is interesting, it
is also distracting. My meditation could be more focused if I didn't
have this distraction. I will continue studying if I can find a
reason/meaning.
