N: I meet this all the time in the Tiika to the Visuddhimagga. It is
usually: seen as, regarded as. We can also say: understood as.
Literally, in PED: from dassati, to see, but in meaning: to see or
understand something as this or that. In the back of Warder there is
a useful chart of the verbs and tenses.
