Dear Yong, Dennis, Rett, Piya, Alex, Gunnar, Clay and friends,

I finally jumped right into the middle of wiki this weekend and added the following entries to the wikimedia project group:

Probably the most important:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Category:Pali_language

This category within the free open english dictionary ("wiktionary") could eventually contain descriptions for any pali word you might think of. Cross hyperlinking allows sharing information with "PALI-OtherLanguage"-dictionaries quite easily. The wikimedia project is free of charge, a very central and perfectly supported environment for this endeavour. You see some "sample entries" and are invited to add to it. The "wikipedia" ideal - constantly improving on the entries through a large number of editors could lead to a new quality of pali dictionary similar to the CPED..

A "wikipedia" in pali:
http://pi.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page

This is more for "fun" and educational purposes. However, if you have a look at one of the entries: "buddho" you will find a short description of the term as supplied by the visuddhimagga. in this way, one could define any buddhist term in pali, creating an in-depth PALI-PALI dictionary.
If you find any errors in my syntax, please do not hesitate to correct them - (the wiki spirit :-)
It should be a nice place to practise some pali..

http://wikisource.org/wiki/Main_Page:Pali

This site will hopefully provide a central refuge for all scattered pali texts. i tried to make a very comprehensive list from the resource i new about. please add to it, if you know more pali works or have digital texts available. i supplied the "hatthavanagallaviharavamsa" as an example (SLTP projects are GNU, so no harm to put them here)

Unfortunately, up to this time, my effort to start the

http://pi.wiktionary.org

failed due to some error on the page which i already reported to wikimedia... This domain had already been reserved for PALI (!) by the wikimedia foundation - someone needed to activate the domain...This site would eventually provide space for kind of a "AnyLanguage"-PALI dictionary...

I definitly think that the gathered expertise of this group could contribute a very important part to the "heritage of mankind"-project which wikipedia is steadily growing into...

mettâya,

Lennart
