once again thanks for pointing out the mistake. I missed out a word
in the second sentence below, so I think it will be good to put it
in. It should be: My mistake not realising that.

I would suggest instead, either "Sewing an article of clothing to
give the son, I sang a song", or more fluently perhaps, "Sewing a
garment to give to my son, I sang a song."
