Dear Nina,

Thanks for your reply. I think I made a mistake by trying to
translate a sentence out of context. It is said that the sentence is
the smallest unit of meaning but, perhaps particularly for Pali, the
wider context is so important.

I've only invested in the volumes of the Digha and Majjhima as I
think Warder recommended i.e., to start with the oldest prose with
its more precise meanings. Was this your approach to beginning study?
