Pakdi,

Literal translation (if we share the same meaning of literal) is only useful
if we want to learn the Pali words. Otherwise, it is simply bad English
which serious readers would find useful, even quaint.

It is well known for example, how many works of great masters of Thailand
and Burma are translated (sometimes literally) into very bad English which
is not useful for those who want to guide their lives by them. Perhaps
useful if one is in the habit of piously collecting them and keeping them at
our Buddha shrine,
