adi.t.thaana

Dear friends,
In MN 140 in Bhikkhu Bodhi's excellent translation of
the Majjhima Nikkhaya (Wisdom Publications), he
translates the word "adi.t.thaana" by "foundation" (in
paragraph 11), which I find rather odd. I've
generally understood this word to have the meaning
"strong determination" or "resolve". Can anyone shed
light on this? Is it etymologically sound? Does it
occur elsewhere in the canon with this meaning?

Thank you in davance.
John
