Here is mine ! It took me some time. I'm unsure about a couple of
things, hence the question marks and comments. Please tell me if there
are problems with Unicode characters.


'Þá tók Kári einn setstokk logandi í hönd sér og hleypur út eftir þvertrénu.'

Then Kári took a burning beam in his hand and jumps behind (?) the cross-tree.

'Slöngvir hann þá stokkinum út af þekjunni og féll hann ofan að þeim er úti
voru fyrir. Þeir hljópu þá undan. Þá loguðu klæðin öll á Kára og svo hárið.
Hann steypir sér þá út af þekjunni og stiklar svo með reykinum.'

Then he throws the beam away from the roof and it falls down in front
of those who
were outside (the doors.) Then they jumped away. Then all Kari's
clothes became ablaze and so his hair.
He then throws himself out of the roof and is roasted with smoke.

- I'm not sure what to understand in 'steypir sér þá út af þekjunni' ;
is he hanging at something ? It's unclear to me.

'Þá mælti einn maður er þar var næstur: "Hvort hljóp þar maður út af
þekjunni?"'

Then speaks a man who there was near: "Whither jumped there a man out of
the roof ?" (Where has he gone, I guess)

'"Fjarri fór það," sagði annar, "og kastaði Skarphéðinn þar eldistokki að
oss."'

"He's went far off," said another, "and Skarphéðinn throwed a burning beam at
us."

'Síðan grunuðu þeir það ekki.'

Later on they had no more doubts about it (they didn't question it anymore).

'Kári hljóp til þess er hann kom að læk einum og kastaði sér í ofan og
slökkti á sér eldinn. Þaðan hljóp hann með reykinum í gróf nokkura og hvíldi
sig og er það síðan kölluð Káragróf.'

Kári jumped / ran until (~) he came to a small stream and throwed
himself into it and
the fire extinguished* himself (to him). Thence he jumped with (the)
smoke in some pit and had some
rest and is that pit since called Káragróf (Kari's pit.)

*I didn't find out which verb 'slökkti' came from, but the meaning
seems clear from the context.

130. kafli

'Nú er að segja frá Skarphéðni að hann hleypur út á þvertréið þegar eftir
Kára. En er hann kom þar er mest var brunnið þvertréið þá brast niður undir
honum. Skarphéðinn kom fótum undir sig og réð þegar til í annað sinn og
rennur upp vegginn. Þá reið að honum brúnásinn og hrataði hann inn aftur.'

Now it is to say about Skarphéðinn that he jumps out at the cross-tree
immediately after
Kári. But when he came there was the cross-tree mostly burned and then
burst down under
him. Skarphéðinn came with feet under him (ie. with nothing under his
feet) and decided [what to do?] immediately in another time (ie. very
quickly ?) and
and runs on the wall. Then came at honum (?) and fell afterwards.

'Skarphéðinn mælti þá: "Séð er nú hversu vera vill."'

Skarphéðinn then speaks: "The things are now as they must be" (???)

- I didn't find out what "séð" was.

'Gekk hann þá fram með hliðvegginum.'

He then walks to the side-wall.

'Gunnar Lambason hljóp upp á vegginn og sér Skarphéðinn. Hann mælti svo:
"Hvort grætur þú nú Skarphéðinn?"'

Gunnar Lambason jumped upon (?) the wall and sees Skarphéðinn. He
spoke that way:
"Why/For what reason are you weeping, Skarphéðinn?"

'"Eigi er það," segir Skarphéðinn, "en hitt er satt að súrnar í augunum. En
hvort er sem mér sýnist, hlærð þú?"'

"It is not (it isn't true)," says Skarphéðinn, "but it is true that my
eyes are crying (from smoke). But
is it as it seems to me, that you're laughing ?"

'"Svo er víst," segir Gunnar, "og hefi eg aldrei fyrr hlegið síðan þú vóst
Þráin á Markarfljóti."'

"It is certain (for sure)," says Gunnar, "and I never laughed before
since you killed
Þráin at Markarfljót."

'Skarphéðinn mælti: "Þá er þér hér nú minjagripurinn."'

Skarphéðinn spoke: "Then is now for you keepsake."

'Tók hann þá jaxl úr pússi sínum er hann hafði höggvið úr Þráni og kastaði
til Gunnars og kom í augað svo að þegar lá úti á kinninni. Féll Gunnar þá
ofan af þekjunni.'

He then took a jaw from his small he had had cut down from Þráinn and
throwed (it)
at Gunnar and it came into (Gunnar's) eye so that it (the eye) came
out on the cheek. Gunnar then
fell down of the roof.
