Yes, "endure" is good (the same sense of 'kunna' that we had in the
last installment), but 'annt til þess að' = "eager to".

"I am eager to tell G. her fate so that she will better endure my death"

Strange as it sounds, "sweet and very pleasantly smelling" - with
holiness, I think is the idea. Compare these examples where to smell
sweetly is a figurative way of saying that someone is holy or pious:

Þessi sami guðs játari, skínandi og ilmandi með sínum heilagleik
(Þorláks saga helga).

Reykelsi færum vér honum, ef vér brennum í hjartanu hugrenningar
holdsins fyr helgar bænir, að vér mættim vel ilma fyr Guði í góðum
verkum eða siðum (Íslenska hómilíubókin).
