Thorgeir IMO was a misery - could not stand a fair fight and took a slice of umbrage over being beaten - he of course could not care less about the horse
Of course I feel Gunnar was right - instant "putting down" swiftly - to cause as little pain as possible "Let him not live disabled"
Not a nice thing to have to do - he gave the job to his brother - rather than  feel Bad

You sorted out the bits that I had trouble with!

I thought that the horse's head was cut off ,though - - af hestinum. And
Thorgeir wanted Gunnar dead because Gunnar had walloped him and he wound up
on the ground for hitting the horse in the head - not because Gunnar had had
the horse killed, which was Gunnar's to do with as he chose.
