'von' = 'ván' (old style spelling), "expectation" rather than 'vanr'
"wont, accustomed" or 'vani' "habit, custom". The noun 'ván'
(feminine) governs the genitive. Thus, literally: "There was an
expectation of such for Sigmund." MM & HP: "It is only what S. could
have expected." I.e. He had it coming!
