Heil!

Long time lurker, very rare poster on this list, but
this touches on my specialty :-)

Using bjarkan (the b-rune) to represent a "p" sound is
certainly in keeping with standard usage. The "peace
symbol r," or ýr, is used to represent the final -R
whereas reið, the R shaped rune would normally be used
to represent a medial "r" as in "garn". Also, the
k-rune kaun would normally be used for the initial
"g". And yes, normally double letters are represented
by a single rune.

So a typical way of rendering "spinn garn" in the
Younger Futhark would be sól-bjarkan-íss-nauð and
kaun-ár-reið-nauð

Although áss/óss could be used rather than ár to
represent the "a" sound, ár would be more typical.

Hope I haven't further confused the issue for you.

In frith,
Fróði
