Your thoughts on konungr v. konungrinn are interesting.
One thing you should keep in mind is that the mss. often
abbreviate this very common word. Thus it may in some cases
be up to the editor whether or not to use the article.
The same holds for such issues as whether an "s." in a ms.
stands for "segir" or "sagði" - editor fiat.
