Apparently the word "sheiling" isn't in the repetoire of today's
shepherd. The online dictionary definition is either a hut or an upland
pasture. I asked the sheep-l online - - the oldest online mailing list
for shepherds - - if any were familiar with the word and got zero
responses. We raise sheep and also had never come across the word.

As near as I could figure out, the sheiling would be a hill pasture
quite a distance from the main farm. There might well be a hut there
for the shepherd to shelter from the rain and wind as well.
