Corsican is not the same thing as Italian. It is a Tuscan adstrate on top on a Genoese strate on top of something that was similar to Sardinian. And they say it's dying out. My daughter spent a summer in Corsica about 5 years ago and said she couldn't find anyone who spoke it. And she lived with a family of Corsican, not French, ancestry.
