Ishinan:
Jaan Puhvel once proposed a derivation from PIE
*h3erp- and comparison with Latin rapio 'to ravish, steal, rob' (1991: 182-183).
Was his suggestion accepted or rejected by fellow
Indo-Europeanists?

Piotr:
LIV compares <rapio:> with Lith.
(ap)-ré.piu 'umgeben, umfassen', Alb. rjep 'zieht aus, beraubt' and Gk.
eréptomai 'rupfe, reiße ab'. The reconstruction proposed there is *(h1)rep-, and
the Latin present is said to reflect *r&p-jé/ó-, with a schwa secundum.

Ishinan:
Thanks Piotr. What about with O.H.G. roubon "to rob," roub "spoil,
plunder;" (P.Gmc. *raubojanan), any
connection?
