It's just a matter of preference - others write it as *wiros (it's a
force of habit for me to spell Gallo-Brittonic words the way that
ancient native speakers did when using the Latin alphabet).

Not really, because in later compound words such as this, gwr "man" is
treated merely as a suffix (likely under the influence of Latin -or
[ius]).
