The word is cognate with "up" and with "break/breach". The nuance
of 'departure' that it conveys is one of discontinuity and
separation, according to Kluge/seebold "besonders den Beginn einer
Reise oder eines Weges".

Whether this fits the semantic field of suddenness is in the eyes of
the beholder. I don't quite see it.
