The decisive indication for me was that Egyptian <q> and <g> show up
initially in PIE as *g/*g^ and *k/*k^.

Finally, they are cognate with words that shows PIE *CV(n)g/k-.

Plus, not decisive but considerable, a full phonological system requires a
dorsal nasal to complement the labial and apical nasals.

There is also the semantic criterion which I will not get into: *(n)g(^) and
*(n)k(^) are very different in meaning.
