Gmc. weak pret. is similar to a) the ppp in PIE *-tó-, b) the aux.
verb *dhe:-.
There are two ways to accommodate that:
i) The two constructions Gmc. might have been distributed on different
weak conj.'s, the present state comes from mixing of those.
ii) PIE *-tó- and *dhe:- might have the same origin

Attempt 3) tries to accommodate ii)

4) PIE *ej- <- PIE *ag- ??
