****GK: (1)What about the Indo-Iranian stage? Is there
a "sea" word? (2) Is there one in Iranian? (just out
of curiosity)****

============
An interesting set of words is :
eghero "lake"
or Greek agheron
and
Mordvin Moksha ärxkä "lake"
rx stands for devoiced r
sounds like rsh.

I suspect these words to be
a variant of *zah(va) "sea"
with a different suffix : ro
*zah base : acquired as H(2)egh-ero
Incoherent vocalism is due to borrowing.
then satem treatment ozero etc
Moksha displays
an old contact -hr- that cause devoiced r.
Non Satem *ehr-ka > ärx-kä

Central PIE has "lake" instead as "sea"
as meaning for this probable loanword
from Kartvelian.
