But they do cause a/e > o in various IE languages. It's similar to
K-a: H2 = x which caused e > a; later k/g optionally changed e > a;
later after PIE split k / g / N / L caused e > a in various
environments in dif. IE languages. The fric. started the changes
which started spreading to others with the same place of art., at
first optionally, reaching its peak or fizzling out only after PIE had
split. K had the most extensive and earliest changes (prob. because a
was rare).
