Kabeljau, I suggested Spanish cabellón "hair
(augmentative)" (or a similar word in Aragonese or
Gascon) to Trask because of the cod's barbels or
whiskers or perhaps a deformation of caballón "(big)
horse" for whatever reason. Trask felt it would work
phonetically via Basque (due to loss of intervocalic
/-n-/ but rejected it for lack of attestation.
