French cabillaud, Dutch kabeljauw, German Kabeljau (loan from
Dutch?) "(large) codfish". The Basque were pioneers in cod fishing,
they are said to have found the Newfoundland banks. If so, they
might be pioneers of making 'stokvis' too?
