argument for nor an argument against "ethnologic
competence". Caesar certainly had a rudimentary talent
for making linguistic and ethnic distinctions (so did
Hitler and Stalin if you wish to put him in their
company). What would have been the point of lying
about the ethno-linguistic status of the Belgians,
while being truthful about the Aquitani?****
