Hello
Para-veredus is a mix Celtic-Latin
see the Welsh Gorwydd (Horse/Cheval)
Originally Celtic Uo-redo-
Redo- = Run french courir
Uo- = Under french sous

so literally "cheval de secours"

see the town Uoreda-  Old Penrith (GB) = horse station

I suppose Med.Lat. parafredus/palafred us may itself be
Germanic-influenced (via Frankish --> Old French --> Irish, English,
Mediaeval Latin). A word of this kind can be borrowed to and fro between
neighbouring languages.
