Then the linguistic ancestors of der Pferd were twice promoted
from second string to first, despite the Celtic *wo- and the
Greco-Latin para-. Quite upwardly mobile, as the sociologists would
put it.
Is *wer-reidos actually attested in a Celtic language in any form,
or is it only an etymologist's logical explanation of the Latin?
