I should improve that. We know Ossetic is lambdacizing (*aryaman >
liman "friend"), and so is the ethnonym Alan. But the latter name is
documented much later than Ariovist, which is not to say that there
wasn't an Iranian people near the Germani at his time or earlier
calling themselves *aryaman or the like, as Iranian peoples were wont
to do, for which I assume no responsibility; I didn't make them do it.
