I was looking back through the archives here and on the PIE religion
list, exploring the Vata - Woden association, and thought I'd put forth
a question:
PIE *wet(1)- "to blow, inspire, spiritually arouse"
1) -> Germanic wod- -> suffixed wod-ono "raging, mad"
2) -> Sanskrit vat- ? "wind"?
3) -> Latin vates "prophet"
Can anyone provide Greek, Baltic, or Slavic correlates? Especially any
cognates that suggest a deity's name?
