The meaning of gh-r-b in Arabic is 'strange'. There is no asu in Arabic.
 
It is pretty clear to anyone who possesses an Arabic dictionary that the root meaning is 'strange': gharbun/maghrib, the "West", is 'the strange place'; compare that with our 'mysterious Orient'.
