1) Because I believe the PIE forms (Germanic/Celtic/Tocharian) we have been discussing correlate genetically, rather than as a loanword, with Sino-Tibetan (*mra), indicating a very old word;

 

2) I think it is highly possible that *(?e)k^(h)w-o-s originally designated the 'reindeer' rather than the 'horse'. I freely admit that the "evidence" for this is my proposed semantic analysis which most will find either unconvincing or fantastic.
