Pat:

Hehe, I hate to intrude on Brian trying to educate
Patrick on simple principles of Logic to no avail
but these mundane statements are full of amusing
self-contradictions because they border on the topic
of Existence itself.
Since Logic requires the fundamental assumption that
Truth exist in opposition to Falsehood and since
Logic requires that all things be proven, Logic by
its own standards is sadly illogical because it can't
in any way prove that this opposition is real. On
the same token, everything can be reduced to
irrationality however. The issue of Existence and
Non-Existence always lies outside the sphere of any
structured principle.
Looking at it another way, Logic can only describe
that which has Order. It was never designed to
describe all parts of our infinite universe, both
real or imagined, that may lack Order.
Since both Order and Chaos must surely be valid
subsets of our larger Universe, then surely not all
things have a cause. Within the sphere of Logic,
Brian's above statement is therefore correct.
However, Logic cannot be used to help understand that
which has no cause or reason, the other "half" of the
Universe in which Patrick wishes to inhabit.
Now, since this Forum is supposed to be grounded on
the principles of Logic, Chaos (such as Patrick's
unordered hypothetica) is well beyond our sphere of
discourse, being the antithesis of our group goals.
And to all terran Stoicists, I bid adieu :)
