Some help to the interpretation of the name: "Vein". There are two
ways of analyzing it

I. Ve-in: plural definite form, pronounced with falling tune on the
first syllable.

If you interprete it naively, Ve means wood, or rather woodwork. Then
the name means simply "the woods" The standard form of this noun
is "ved", pronounced "ve".

II. Vei-n: singular definite form, pronounced as monosyllabic with
circumflex, or disyllabic with even tune on the fist syllable.

In this case the stem may be the word vei/veg that means "road"
or "track". If there was an important road used by the inhabitants
through this area, the area very well might have been given a name
simply meaning "the road".

Probably these simple interpretations are wrong, but worth considering.
